Campo Grafico: Honoring a Design Legacy

Back to journal

Campo Grafico, a pioneering Milanese journal published between the two World Wars, played a crucial role in shaping the modern graphic design movement in Italy, serving as a hub for creative minds and fostering discussions on modern aesthetics and techniques across various fields.

Over the years, I've had the privilege of collaborating with the Campo Grafico Association, an organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the legacy of this groundbreaking journal. Our collaboration culminated in an exhibition at the ADI Design Museum in March/April 2022, where I contributed to both the exhibition design and the graphic design of the accompanying catalog, which has garnered recognition with several prestigious awards, including the Red Dot Design Awards, a First Prize in the Brochures & Catalogs Category at the Print Design Awards, an Honorable Mention at the Graphis Design Awards and Gold Awards at the Italian Art Directors Club.

This project not only showcased the journal's rich heritage but also underscored its pivotal role in shaping the landscape of Italian graphic design. It's a testament to the enduring power of Campo Grafico's vision and its continued relevance today.

For a deeper dive into this fascinating history, I invite you to explore the Campo Grafico Association's website, where you'll find a digital archive with scans of all 66 issues: www.campografico.org.

Discover the roots of Italian design innovation and see how Campo Grafico continues to inspire generations of creatives.
