Historic Wine Bar Gets a Contemporary Makeover

Back to journal

A colleague and friend, an expert in restaurant interior design, reached out with a project for a historic venue. This local business, Milini (located in the province of Brescia, Italy), had been a beloved wine bar and bistro since 1954, but its signage was outdated and cluttered, failing to reflect its charm and quality.

In 2018, I was tasked with redesigning the brand logo. The goal was to create a visual identity that celebrated the venue’s historical significance and culinary excellence while presenting a contemporary look. To capture Milini 1954's distinctive character, I focused on its most recognizable feature: its arched façade. The new logo features a continuous stroke that outlines this element while drawing the initial letter “m.” The visual identity was further enhanced by a color palette of dark blue and gold, emphasizing the venue's historical roots and culinary excellence, along with a contemporary yet classic typographic set.

Today, Milini 1954 continues to be a renowned meeting place for the local community. It offers exceptional on-site dining experiences and is a well-recognized spot for purchasing local gastronomic products. The new brand identity has refreshed its image and strengthened its connection with both longtime patrons and new visitors.
